Feeding your rat

Feed your rat on a good commercial rodent diet and supplement with a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables in moderation.

Reserve treats for special occasions or training rewards to prevent imbalances of vitamins and minerals.

Feed your rat from a heavy food bowl with some of the diet scattered around the cage to allow the rat to forage, as they would in the wild.

Always ensure fresh water is available, preferably from a water bottle, rather than a bowl, to prevent it getting soiled. However, make sure that the bottle is running correctly as an air bubble may interfere with the ball mechanism. If your rat is looking dehydrated, this should be the first thing to check.
