Dog Rescue

DID YOU KNOW? The RSPCA rehomes about 16,000 dogs per year!

Greyhound in rescue centreThere are thousands of dogs in need of good homes, many through no fault of their own. These dogs will be various ages, sizes, breeds and breed mixtures. If you are going to get a new dog, please consider homing one of these.

As with all dogs, a rescue dog can be a challenge to take on, but can also be immensely rewarding.

Gwen Bailey's book, The Rescue Dog, is very useful and contains all sorts of information suitable for the prospective dog rehomer, including selection of your new family member, and training tips suitable for the older and possibly more challenging canine companion.

As part of her final year research project, one of my friends from the Royal Veterinary College is doing research into breed-related problems in dogs. If you own or have owned a dog, please fill in her questionnaire or visit the Facebook group.
